I did my part

About 10 years ago I had an idea for a website where I would post my crazy ideas, inventions and philosophies to the site and let people take them for free -with one catch. They had to let me know their results. I didn’t want money I just wanted to know if it worked. Now I should say that while I have a science background, my interests can fade and switch so fast that some random exciting idea I had will be boring 5 seconds later…so I have studied lots of little things, but I never took a dive into the meaty material of many subjects. So many of my ideas could be easily proved as flops…but I don’t feel like researching :)

I then expanded the idea for the website to be an idea depot of sorts for people of all sorts to share ideas alike. Maybe there was a student looking for an idea for a science fair project or some company looking to dump money into R&D. I donno. Within one year I found an advertisement for a website where people bought, sold and traded their ideas royalty free. No need to start up a free exchange of ideas on a website when someone else found a way to market and sell it. That company is now long gone…

Well not too long ago…well okay last year I decided to post part of one of my crazy ideas to my blog. I was supposed to start posting more and more, but I never got around to it. Idea #1: Alternate power source: would lighting work?.

Interesting enough someone was searching the Internet Sunday for just such information and found my blog. A young girl from Canada had an assignment to look for someone with an opinion on lightning as an alternate power source…so in a small way I helped her with her homework.

That put a big smile on my face this morning. :)

It is about that time

For my high school 10 year reunion. Wow…it’s been 10 years since I was trapped in the hell some people call the best time of their life. Okay it wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t hell…all the time.

It looks like it will cost $80 to see some old friends, have drinks and reminisce about the good times past; or for some of us (my friends and I who have talked about this) laugh at those who thought they were something, but never amounted to anything. How bad is it that I so bad want to mock those that mocked me? Ugh. What a morality tail. I could be the better person or I could have some fun that really won’t do any lasting damage…so it’s not that bad, or is it?

I got a kick out of one friend’s recent phone call from a classmate. The classmate went on as if my friend and her were friends in school, which they never were. She went on to talk about her soccer mom lifestyle and ask my friend if she was married, kids, etc. Needless to say they had little to talk about since my friend is not married, doesn’t have kids and is not a fan of soccer. When my friend told me about the call I thought she was lying because this stuff only happens in movies! No lie, it happened.

So I am going to buy a ticket, because I just have to see how shallow and naive some of these people really are. Besides it will make for good blogging!

The only question I have left to decide: do I bring a date? That’s a tough question. I mean, do I try to pick up one of the girls that never talked to me when we went to school, but now thinks she should talk to me? $80 just to bring a date? Yuck…maybe Ill fly solo for this one…

I come cheap

Well I thought I [my blog] might be worth more than $8k [US]…but apparently the world of the internet thinks otherwise. Not enough links…bah, who needs links?! :)

My blog is worth $7,339.02.
How much is your blog worth?

Backlinks

Still having issues with Blogger and some of the code I added. It appears that Blogger has some major bugs in this release of features. At any rate, while I play around with my design and spice things up a bit, my blog might look a little funky :)

I am one year old

Today is my blog’s b-day/anniversary. I thought I would post links to some of my early posts and some favorites; maybe add a few comments about why I liked them…or maybe just make up stories about why I wrote them. You’ll never know anyway, so let’s make it entertaining!

There have been many entries that turned into comment fun…or the emails on the side. The tagging, the linking, the run on posts across multiple blogs. There was the second blog no one knew about, Memoirs of Love Astray…that later became a feature of re-posted entries here. The first two people I started talking to EngineerDan @ discouragement and Thérèse @ the origin of shoeism with their comment wars and continual rips on one another. The blog crushes with anonymous comments. The small circle that brewed from readers of many blogs on my blogroll that ended up here at various times. Stories of dating Blog hopping, blog spamming, blog plug-ins…the people that stop blogging after a month.

There has been a nice chunk of memories and good humor that’s now been spread across the internet like a clique of friends who’s stories are public. We’re not saving lives or finding cures for cancer…but in some strange way we’re all trying to save one another’s sanity…even if that’s just through nonsense text. You gotta love the internet. :)

Cheers,
– bd
