Humor me, it’s been a little bit
“Where in the Hell #1” wow, things are tough when you spoof yourself you know (ala “What The Hell #”)? :) I have a long overdue update and some news to share.
On with the show…
I have been a little busier at the office then usual lately and I like writing on scrap paper (a.k.a. MS Word docs or the like) throughout my day; be it composing a post or just jotting little things that I want to blog about later. With the increase in work, I just haven’t had the time or I keep losing my thoughts. By the time I get home I am spent mentally. How annoying!! I have a few posts that I will be putting up in the next few days; rather then back post I figure they are good for future posts. Hey it’s my frigging blog so back off…I’m not recycling posts! :)
Updates…
School: I will be registering for classes come April 1st; so I will be going back to finish up my last eight (8) classes. I can’t say enough how thankful I am that I will get a chance to finish what I started and be given an opportunity to push myself so I can go further then I ever thought I would go. I was in a funk for a long time; but I climbed out of a hole that spanned almost seven (7) full years. All I can say is “Look out world, I’m on my way!”
Work: This summer marks my twelfth (12) year working in an office doing computer work. I have gone through burn out twice; the second time being the most stressful and depressing. I have climbed out of that hole as well and I am looking to move to the next level of “skills” –if you will. Beyond that I have been looking into second jobs and I have even gone on a few interviews. So far I think I might be nuts combining a full-time forty (40) hour five (5) day work week type of job/career with a part-time twenty (20) hours per week over seven (7) possible days type of job. Not to mention going to school and volunteering. Pretty much I am asking to get burned out…so I have a few other thoughts on the horizon. When I hear back from my last string of interviews I’ll comment more. No need to jinx myself!!
Library & Museum: I started volunteering at a small private (wannabe public) library and museum in February of last year. My interest in art, architecture and preserving history brought me to this small group whom I work with on a regular basis. I was placed on the board of directors shortly after coming into the group and given an officer position right away…secretary. Hey every corporation needs someone in charge of the corporate records right? That was me. Last month I was promoted to be the vice president of the board of directors. Needless to say I was both honored and grateful that the board of directors has such a trust in me. I could not ask for better real-world experience beyond what I have already. I also find great meaning in the work that I do and the people I work with. I couldn’t ask for a greater reward.
Personal: No luck on finding Miss right; although Miss Close-enough-for-now has been coming around with her friends quite often lately. I’m not finding myself willing to settle, nor have a little fun; but I guess that’s the next level in growing up I wasn’t planning on hitting anytime soon. ;)
Books: Wow, I have read a few great ones recently and I have a few more I can’t wait to read on my shelf. I even wrote another book review and I have another partially finished. I’ll be publishing both here within the next week.
Fun: I am excited to say that I am reading Leadership; by Rudolph Giuliani. Wait, why am I mentioning that here? Well he is coming in April to a local college to talk about the leadership topics and team structuring he discusses in his book; as well as expanding on some points. I recently asked for the day off of work and I just received confirmation today that my tickets are secured. 9/11 brought more about him into the spotlight for most Americans, including me. Looking at him pre-9/11, I have a high respect for Rudy as a leader and his willingness to try new (untested) ideas. The more I learned about him, the more I wanted to learn about his business and leadership tactics. He is the first person I will meet (hear speak) on a long list of “People I want to meet” list. While not too exciting to many people, it means something to me.
Enough babbling and rambling for now, I have a confession Wednesday to plan for tomorrow!
