Worth a mention, good for a laugh

TGIF…it’s a “feature” day at BD@BS!! Last week I missed (again-again-again) and you thought I would sleep on the job today too. It’s okay you can say “yes”. Well have no fear for Feature Friday is here! Ahhhh yea, whatever…on with the sideshow!

the ninth circle – Humor and life, who wouldn’t read it? You should. Cynical? Yes, at times. Snippits-o-life? Yes! Crazy accents?! YES! Note: crazy accents are always a bonus for any blog. It’s best done with a stereotypical comment like [redneck American] Yee Haw! I can’t wait to do me some huntin’!! [end comment] Yea you know you like it.

Corporate Peon – Possible previous link, but still good to mention. A good site about someone you know, because you are that person too…well sorta. About Kate: “I’m a corporate lackey, slowly trying to climb my way up the ladder to the old white men above the glass ceiling. They keep kicking the ladder away. Bastards.” See!?! It’s kinda like you.

The Terminal Philosopher – Closed down and on hiatus; but worth going back and looking over past entries. Spend an afternoon looking over some funny rants and mockings of films.

zen and the art of driving – “Tsunami”: “I’m a guy in my early 20’s trying to figure out what to do with my life… I’m not a good writer by any means but even bad writers need an outlet, right?” –I think we all think that of ourselves at times. Snippiets of life…and all the good stuff in between.

Pink Is The New Blog – This has been linked on almost every one of my daily reads…it was about time I made some remake about the site isn’t it? Everything you say and you want to say along with pictures…about what? Celebrities!! Cheers and enjoy the Pink!

Scorpio – InfoSpace

Oh someone is so not doing their job right. Today was not some great and wonderful day Mr/Miss horoscope writer! In fact it was one of the worst days I have had in a long time. Problems left and right at work, homework almost not finished and a group project that was looking to be a total loss. Things came through in the end for the project, but work was a bear.

I know accuracy is not always a strong suit, but please…can we work on getting the positive on positive days and negative on negative days? Thanks.

“Leave the routine chores to someone else. Some extraordinary meetings are yours to be had if you’re ready to meet them face to face. The mundane has no place in your day, especially when your charisma is this powerful. Expect to meet the right people as you’re placed in extraordinary situations throughout your day. It’s a win-win situation wherever you end up — you know how to make the most of the opportunities coming your way.”

“Automobiles are free of egotism, passion, prejudice and stupid ideas about where to have dinner. They are, literally, selfless. A world designed for automobiles instead of people would have wider streets, larger dining rooms, fewer stairs to climb and no smelly, dangerous subway stations.”

Good news is boring

It’s interesting how little press NASA gets unless they make a mistake. Why is that? NASA does some crazy stuff that takes some of the most brilliant minds in the worlds to accomplish; but it’s always an afterthought. That is, until they make a mistake. Sure they have their problems, some of them seem minor to us…but are you launching people into outer space? No. It’s not that easy.

“KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Florida (CNN) — The space shuttle Discovery touched down Tuesday morning, completing NASA’s first shuttle mission since Columbia broke apart during re-entry in February 2003.”
[CNN] ‘Discovery is home’ – Aug 9, 2005

A pet peeve of mine is not that NASA doesn’t get enough credit, it’s that good news in general is boring to most people.

Why?

Why is it that we don’t stop for someone with a flat tire, but we slow down (and almost stop) to see someone being pulled out of a burning wreck of a car accident? We hate that people die in war, but we want to see the pictures…the high definition video-feed that makes you think you can taste the sand, sulfur and that weird rusty taste from blood? We want that “in your face” bad news, but we change the channel when it’s good news.

Why?

We go to the movies to see the hero. We look for the warm fuzzy movies to take our kids to. We give terrible ratings to movies without happy endings. We loath movies were the bad guy wins.

Why?

I don’t know, but it’s sure confusing to me that we worry about video games being too violent, but we have family hour watching the news which is just as violent. It’s confusing that we demand bad news so much, now that’s all the media wants to give us. It’s confusing to me that we want to look past reality when we go to the movies and when we watch the news.

I’m going to go watch Disney movies now. Thanks for listening to my doomsday report. :)

I’m an addict

I have been taking lots of pictures and spending more time away from the computer -this is a good thing by the way. I have a creative side that gets lost too often; however, I also have an addictive trait that gets me sucked into hobbies. :)

Two weekends ago I had a double-header of a weekend with concerts. I took 1500+ pictures and learned the rule of 10 for continuous picture taking: 1 in every 10 photos will be a keeper. I had about 150 good shots when I was done pruning the pics that I wanted to keep. The rule of 10 struck again when I found that I had about 15 great shots…and one more time when I found 2 amazing pictures.

I bought my camera on May 18th, a Wednesday. 11 weeks later I am 46 pictures away from taking 3,500 pictures with my camera. Tonight I have another local concert that I’ll be taking pictures at…and I know I’ll take more than 46 pictures. :)

[conundrum]
Now I am just trying to decide if I want to pay attention to the photo count to try and get a “special” picture for number 3,500 or do I just keep taking pictures and see what I get? Tough call…I almost just want to take a pic of me. Hmmm we’ll have to see what I decide later!
